On Sunday night, Fulham will play a friendly against Brentford, another team from the Premier League, to begin their preseason preparations for the 2023–24 campaign.
Brentford’s season will begin on August 13 at home against Tottenham Hotspur, while Marco Silva’s team is preparing for their season opening at Everton on August 12.
Although Fulham has not yet participated in a summer friendly, they have already left for the United States for the Premier League Summer Series, which also features Chelsea, Newcastle United, Aston Villa, Brighton & Hove Albion, and Brentford.
Before returning to England for their last summer friendly against Hoffenheim at Craven Cottage, Silva’s team will compete against Brentford, Villa, and Chelsea.
There is a sense that a lot will happen at Fulham before their 2023–24 Premier League season opener against Everton on August 12 because the team’s manager is currently hotly connected with a move to Saudi Arabia in addition to star forward Aleksandar Mitrovic.
There have been rumors that Silva is desired by Al Ahly, with the Saudi team purportedly giving him a deal of £400,000 per week, and that Mitrovic does not want to play for Fulham again after being priced out of a move to Al-Hilal.
It’s fair to say that things off the field are now overshadowing the start of the preseason schedule for the Cottagers, who placed 10th in the Premier League last season but have yet to make a signing this summer.
On July 12, Brentford and Boreham Wood faced off in their first preseason match for the 2023–24 season, which ended in a 1–1 draw.
The Bees had a fantastic 2022–23 season, earning 59 points from their 38 games to place ninth in the standings, seven points ahead of Fulham in tenth. As a result, head coach Thomas Frank faces a challenging task to improve on that in the upcoming season.
Before returning to England for their last summer friendly against Lille on August 5, Brentford will play in the Premier League Summer Series against Fulham, Brighton, and Villa.
The Premier League season for Frank’s club will then start on August 13 against Tottenham at home. It will be interesting to see how the team does throughout the 2023–24 season.
This summer, the Bees have brought in three players: Nathan Collins, Mark Flekken, and Kevin Schade, the latter of whom has joined permanently from Freiburg.
