Barcelona aims to secure consecutive La Liga victories as they pursue an away match against Alaves this Saturday. Currently positioned fourth in the table, Xavi’s team is coming off a 1-0 triumph over Osasuna, while Alaves, in good form, secured a 3-0 victory against Almeria in their recent fixture.
Although Alaves hasn’t defeated Barcelona since September 2016, they approach this game in excellent form, having won four of their last five matches across all competitions. This includes three consecutive wins in La Liga, where they garnered 10 points from their last four outings, drawing with Real Sociedad and defeating Sevilla, Cadiz, and Almeria. Their recent successes have propelled them to the 11th position in the standings, with a comfortable 10-point cushion above the relegation zone.
With aspirations of a top-10 finish, Alaves is just three points behind Getafe, currently in the 10th spot. Notably, they have accumulated 16 points from their 10 home league matches this season, securing five wins in the process.
Having returned to La Liga through the Segunda Division playoffs last season, Alaves is eyeing further success. Their upcoming schedule includes consecutive home fixtures against Barcelona and Villarreal, followed by matches against Real Betis (away) and Mallorca (home) to conclude the month. In their previous top-flight stint in 2016-17, they finished ninth after promotions from the lower tiers.
Meanwhile, Barcelona is set to engage in the upcoming match following a 1-0 triumph over Osasuna, where Vitor Roque’s inaugural goal for the club secured a crucial three points in the midweek encounter.
In their previous outing, the Catalan team faced a 5-3 defeat at home against Villarreal. Subsequently, Xavi announced his decision to step down as head coach at the conclusion of the 2023-24 campaign.
As things stand, Barcelona holds the fourth position in the league table, with a record of 14 victories, five draws, and three losses from 22 matches. They currently have 47 points, trailing the leaders Girona by eight points.
