Arsenal vs Barcelona Live

On Wednesday night at SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles, Arsenal will play host to La Liga champions Barcelona in an effort to avenge their first preseason setback on Saturday.

The two teams haven’t faced off since the Catalan giants defeated the Gunners 2-1 in a friendly at Camp Nou in August 2019.

Following an unblemished start to pre-season, with back-to-back 1-1 draws with Watford and Nuremburg followed by a smashing 5-0 win against an MLS All-Star XI, Arsenal faced their first setback of the summer at the hands of Premier League rivals Manchester United last weekend.

The trio of summer acquisitions Declan Rice, Kai Havertz, and Jurrien Timber were named together in the starting lineup for the first time since joining the club for a combined value of more than £200 million, much to the delight of Arsenal supporters.

The Red Devils defeated the Premier League runners-up from last season 5-3 in an exhibition penalty shootout after the Red Devils had triumphed 2-0 in New Jersey thanks to goals from Bruno Fernandes and Jadon Sancho in the first half.

The midfield trio of Rice, Havertz, and skipper Martin Odegaard inspired Mikel Arteta following the team’s loss, but the Spanish manager has conceded that there are still ‘a lot of things to improve on’ as the new season approaches.

Arteta will play against well-known opponents on Thursday in Barcelona, where he started his playing career back in 1999. Since February 2011, when goals from Robin van Persie and Andrey Arshavin secured a 2-1 home win in the first leg of the Champions League quarterfinals, the Gunners manager will be hoping to lead his team to their first victory over the Catalan giants in any competition. However, Arsenal went on to lose 4-3 on aggregate.
